Our Purpose

At Beck Corporation, our philosophy is in the belief that “Life’s about putting back.” This guiding principle, championed by founder Max Beck AO, has translated into a significant and enduring philanthropic legacy across Melbourne and Victoria. The Beck family’s commitment extends beyond financial donations, focusing on leveraging their expertise and time to achieve tangible community outcomes and drive lasting change.

In June 2018, Max Beck was awarded The Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) medal for his distinguished service to the community through philanthropic and fundraising support for medical, sporting, social welfare, and cultural organisations, and to urban revitalisation.

Medical

One of Max’s most impactful contributions was his management, design, and construction oversight of the visionary $1 billion redevelopment of Melbourne’s world-class Royal Children’s Hospital. Serving as the Deputy Chairman for over a decade, his property and construction expertise was critical in creating a world-class medical facility with warm, comforting spaces for families.

The Beck family has also provided significant and ongoing support to The Alfred Hospital and Murdoch Children’s Research Institute.

Community

Max has been instrumental in driving the new Sorrento Surf Life Saving Club project that will give the Southern Peninsula a fit for purpose lifesaving Club to patrol one of the busiest beaches in Australia.

The Portsea Camp is an institution cherished by Max and the Beck family for the life-changing experiences it provides to disadvantaged children across Victoria. Max has recently funded the refurbishment of a building to facilitate the Camp expanding its operations.

Social Enterprise

Demonstrating that contributions are not always “cold hard cash,” the Beck family have also contributed their property-related expertise to achieve significant community outcomes, such as assisting with the reconstruction of Marysville following the Black Saturday bushfires.

Max has also made significant contributions to sporting and cultural causes, including a 10-year commitment to the Prime Minister’s Olympic Dinner and executive roles with the Victorian Olympic Committee.

Philanthropy

Max Beck’s passion for cycling has blossomed into a philanthropic force.

He is the leader of The Bay Riders cycling group, which has raised over $1 million for children’s charities. This movement highlights his belief in the mental health benefits and camaraderie that come from shared purpose.

Beck Family Foundation

The Beck family’s philanthropy, formalised through the Beck Family Foundation (Co-Chaired by Lorraine Beck and Directed by Carla Dinage), supports a diverse and extensive list of causes, ensuring a legacy for future generations.  Impactful contributions include:
